another good time in Moose Jaw

Here is another young family from Moose Jaw, this was done last fall in a great park there. We had an awesome afternoon. Griffin, the little guy, was very into the leaves everytime his mom put him on the grass. He checked them over very closely, even gave them a taste test and they must have passed because he didn't spit them out. I am sure he has grown quite a bit since these were taken, I would imagine a real little boy and not a baby anymore. Thanks Becky, Gord and Griffin for a fantastic time.

BIG DEAL!

Well today is my Birthday and they keep getting better and better. Before we had kids we celebrated special occasions like this by going out for supper and buying gifts and making a big deal out of it. Well not until now do I realize that all that was fine but what really matters is family and good friends and just being around them. My husband left for Denver this morning, as he got ready to go he wished me a Happy Birthday and gave me a kiss on the forehead (morning breath is just not romantic), wished me a good day and then proceeded to phone me everytime he landed somewhere just to let me know he made it. That was much better than a supper. My gift today was the time spent with my kids, we hung out at home (they "helped" me pack as I am meeting my husband in Denver tomorrow). Then we went to the rink for skating lessons and My oldest who is 4 said she would buy me a piece of pie for my birthday(she had taken money from her piggy bank, 3 nickels or beavers she calls them). If you have ever been to the Drake rink for pie you know that it was a treat. As for making a big deal out of it, that came at the end of night when I kissed my two kidlets goodnight and realized how thankful I am for them and that every day I can spend with them is a BIG DEAL.
Thanks to all for visiting my blog, I will post more pictures when I get back.
stay safe,
Paula

The Helland's

The Helland's are another great family from the big lights of Moose Jaw. I have known this fam for a few years now as they are good friends of my sisters. I usually get to see one or two of them when we are in town. Joanne (the mom) treats my kids as if they were her own. A super bunch of people to be around, hope to see you all the next time we venture to the big lights. Thanks for the great time and showing me parts of Moose Jaw I would have never seen otherwise, it's got great character just like the people in it.

Friends

These were 5 friends that are all teachers(hence the playground theme) and what awesome friends they were to be around. You may recognize Jen (mom to Ty) I posted some of her family pictures. The girls were wonderful to work with, very easy going and fun to hang out with. Two of the girls were pregnant at the time and I wish them all the best with their babies.

The Sky Is The Limit

i took this photo on my way home from town the other day and was amazed by the color in the sky. Interesting how many different colors the sky can take, so grey you think you may never see the sun again and then an evening like this with pinks and oranges so bright you think the sky is on fire. It made me think of life and the changes we go through are much like a Saskatchewan sky. Life can bring you downs that you think you will never feel happiness again and then it can bring you the up that makes you smile from ear to ear. Well right now my life is full of pinks and oranges and i am smiling from ear to ear. I have wonderful friends, great family and a new venture that has gotten me so excited that i truely believe that the sky is the limit!

Here is to all the ups and downs that make us who we are!

I spent a wonderful morning with this family late in the fall, the little guy, Ty, is the sweetest boy. the end of the shoot was cutting into his nap time but it is amazing what a sucker can do for endurance. Jen and Darren are awesome parents, very patient and their love for Ty is quite obvious. Ty's gramma also joined us and her and Ty's bond is so strong. Thanks for the opportunity to capture your family but most of all for the laughter and fun.

cheers to family!

Family

This is one family i hold dear to my heart! i have known one all my life, two of them all their lives and the other not long enough. This fine looking family consists of my oldest sister, brother inlaw and two nephews. I've always admired the bond my sister, Heidi, and her husband have and only seems to get stronger the more time they have together. They have raised two young boys that i love deeply and have enjoyed watching them grow (way too fast). My sister has always been the mother hen type, not only to me but to everyone. She's is a kind person who would do anything in her power to help.

These shots were taken on a weekend i spent at their place. i did quite a few shoots that weekend and Heidi was there to look after my kids even though my youngest tested her Will the whole time. She never complained and made all of us feel special. Thankyou Heidi, Darren, Brady and Riley for one fantastic weekend i will treasure in my memories forever.

Another inspiration

This is one lady i have admired all my life, from trying to dress exactly like her, imitating her every move and wanting to follow her and her friends everywhere. This is one of my big sisters! She has been my rock from day one, even through my rebellion years she never gave up on me. if it is listening with an open mind or giving some much needed advice she always knows what to do or say. ontop of all this,as you can see, she is a stunning beauty. she has been an inspiration to many that have the priviledge to know her but to me through out the years she has been so much more. Love you Jill, keep being you, you are one great soul!!!
Jill and i headed outside one day over the x-mas holidays and snapped a few shots, i hope you enjoy them as much as i do.

Where do I start......

INSPIRATION where does it come from? you never know where or when it will happen well it happened to me in September of 2006 as my family of 4 (a daughter who is 4, a son who is 10 1/2 months, a great husband and myself) were getting some photographs done to send out for christmas card. i have always been interested in photography and had been looking into photography classes when i met Amanda Sakundiak and her sister Juanita Malcolm of dream photographyhttp://www.dreamphotography.biz
this story has truly made me believe in fate. I picked up one of their business cards at a great baby and maternity store in saskatoon called two little birdies. their business card was of one photograph of a little boy on a bike and their names simply printed on the side of the photograph. it immediately caught my attention for two reasons, one because it was full of life and fun and modernly unique, and the second because it was more about the photograph than a name plastered across a business card with no soul. i can tell you that these girls have soul!!! i gave the number on the bus. card a call to ask a couple of questions and on the other line i got this voice that was full of life and a true love of what she was doing. hearing the excitement in her voice made me realize that i wanted her to do our family portraits. this all happened very early in the summer and i was waiting until fall so we could have some great fall color in our shots, i put it on hold for a couple months and mid September i gave the number a call again but got the answering machine, so i left a message and awaited a call. A day or two after the kids and i decided to head to saskatoon for a shopping trip. my fate was to happen while i sat on a bench in Aldo (a shoe store) trying on a pair of boots. This friendly face turned to me and said "it must be challenging shopping with two kids" my reply was "not challenging just interesting at times". a couple seconds later she came to me handing me a business card as i looked down i see dream photography. FATE had braught us together in a shoe store. she not only gave me fantastic memories of my family but an inspiration for my future. i sent her an email asking her advice on how to get started on a career in photography and she was more than willing to help in any way she could. Amanda is not your average person she is my inspiration.
i baught a camera not long after our incounter and have been addicted to it since. my kids and husband are ready for me to find some new subjects. my love for photography and my inspiration from dream photography has lead me to start up my own photography business called mya.emerson photography.
i would like to thank all the people who have been so kind as to lend me their time so i could practice. thankyou and i will treasure all your pictures and memories of the days that were spent with you. and thankyou Amanda and Juanita you are wonderful people with a great gift of making every picture you take tell a story. i will post some pictures tomorrow as i am on dial up and it takes forever :~{
